Job Description

NW Live Arts is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Chair of Trustees to play a significant part in developing NW Live Arts as an innovative arts organisation. The Chair of Trustees will allow the Artistic Director to develop her role with greater focus; make an invaluable contribution to the board; and help us to forge long lasting and meaningful relationships with community and other charity partners.

We want to hear from passionate individuals with experience of chairing a charity Trustee Board and who possess a strong understanding of the legal responsibilities of charity governance and Trusteeship. Our ambition is for our board to reflect the diversity and talent of our local communities, therefore, we particularly encourage applicants from Black, Asian and Ethnically Diverse backgrounds and under-represented communities to apply.

We are looking for a Chair of Trustees who will have the following responsibilities:
  • To lead the Board of Trustees and fully utilise their specific skills and experience.
  • To meet frequently with the Artistic Director and team to discuss strategy and vision.
  • To support and supervise the Artistic Director as appropriate and act as a channel of communication between the Board and any members of staff.
  • To hold the Artistic Director and NW Live Arts core staff members accountable for duties and responsibilities.
  • To act as a representative of the Board and lead in the decision making process.
  • To act as a representative for NW Live Arts (representing at functions and in the press.)
  • To ensure board meetings are chaired effectively and that meetings are based on a clear agenda and well recorded.
  • To take a lead in ensuring that the compliance responsibilities of the Board are fulfilled, while ensuring that NW Live Arts is fulfilling its objectives, has a clear vision and is looking to the future.
The main responsibilities of all NW Live Arts Trustees are:
  • To set and maintain vision, mission, and values.
  • To ensure that complies at all times with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • To ensure that NW Live Arts pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.
  • To maintain proper financial control and ensure that NW Live Arts applies its resources exclusively in the pursuit of its objectives.
  • To ensure minutes from Board meetings are accurate, concise, and distributed to the other Trustees.
  • To develop overall strategy and provide strategic leadership, setting policy, defining goals, and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
  • To support the operational management of the organisation.
  • To ensure that risk assessments for all aspects of the business are carried out.
  • To uphold the reputation and values of NW Live Arts.
  • To maintain effective Board performance and ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity including funding, insurance, and engagement of staff and artists.
  • To promote NW Live Arts and act in the best interests of the charity. Trustees will be required to attend quarterly board meetings online or in Kentish Town.
