NW LIVE ARTS is looking for dynamic and enthusiastic individuals with an interest in music and community to join our board of trustees. We are a small arts organisation based in Kentish Town running creative projects and producing concerts which explore important social themes.

WHAT WE DO

Founder and Artistic Director Caroline Heslop conceived NW Live Arts to bring creative artists closer to local communities and demonstrate the value of our compassionate multi-cultural society. We believe that any concept of truth and ethical values is best conveyed by creative artists from different cultures working together. We also feel that dedicated, committed and highly trained musicians can bring empowering skills to diverse communities.

NW Live Arts creates stimulating live classical and world music performances to inspire new musical encounters, fight preconceptions, and build lifelong relationships between music and communities. Our mission is to bring high calibre performances of classical and world music to everyone, expose audiences to new sounds and connect them with their neighbours.

We believe everyone should be able to experience a live classical music event, and to encourage those who might not think of going to a concert hall, we present live performances in neighbourhood venues such as libraries, GP surgeries, churches and community halls to provide music of the highest quality to local audiences across London.

For our creative projects, we partner with organisations (eg. The Free Space Project, Freedom from Torture, Age UK, Bloomsbury Festival) helping people facing issues of isolation, homelessness and mental health. Led by trained facilitators, we invite participants to create new work in our community workshops in creative writing or visual arts. Each project centres on an important social issue. Work produced here is programmed alongside the music in the concert which is the culmination of each project. The result is to bring marginalised communities together for a supportive, creative and social experience with the aim of making people feel welcome and equal in society and to improve their self-esteem and well-being.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are seeking active and engaged individuals to join our board to help us widen our reach in the community; establish meaningful creative partnerships; widen our pool of diverse emerging and established musicians, workshop facilitators and creatives; and to help us to grow and develop the infrastructure of our organisation. They will bring with them self-motivation, time and dedication as well as passion, enthusiasm and energy.

We would particularly welcome individuals with knowledge of strategic business management, fundraising, and law in creative industries. Someone who can bring authority and useful connections in Arts and Wellbeing, or has experience of working for Camden or another London Council would also be warmly welcomed. We are also very keen to see applications from people from a Black, Asian or Ethnically Diverse background.

We are a registered charity – no. 1185485 and a company limited by guarantee, no. 12023109. Trustees will be required to attend quarterly board meetings online or in Kentish Town.

WHAT DIFFERENCE WILL YOU MAKE?

By taking on the role of trustee, you will allow the Artistic Director to develop her role with greater focus. You will make an invaluable contribution to the board by helping to oversee the legal commitments of the charity, addressing the funding, marketing and artistic strategies we employ in order to realise our objectives, and by helping us to forge long lasting and meaningful relationships with community and other charity partners.

Our aim is to produce 3-6 projects a year with imaginative, creative concerts exploring social themes repeated in different venues in London and further afield involving a wide range of communities. Your expertise will enable us to support and enhance the wellbeing of more people as well as engaging more diverse audiences and artists to think about serious social issues in a fulfilling and rewarding social context.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR THE VOLUNTEER TRUSTEE?

We offer you the chance to play a significant part in developing and establishing an innovative arts organisation. You will be working alongside a friendly and deeply committed creative and administrative team, fantastic artists and musicians, inspiring community workshop facilitators and supporting creative projects that bring artists, audience and communities closer together.

You will experience wonderful concerts and witness first hand the impact that the work of NW Live Arts is having on communities in London.
