Music & Soul 2019

A performance of Stravinsky’s ‘The Soldier’s Tale’ featuring the NW Live ensemble and a new work – ‘The Way’ – composed and devised by a collaborative team of ex-service men and women from the Soldier’s Arts Academy and members of the NW Live ensemble.

Stravinsky wrote his ‘Soldier’s Tale’ in the last year of World War One. With three actors, a dancer, 7 players and a conductor, the piece , based on a Russian folk tale, tells the story of a soldier who by mistake sells his soul to the devil. His soul is represented by the music of the violin.  In this concert we present not only the full version of Stravinsky’s work but also an extraordinary new music theatre piece – ‘The Way’ telling contemporary stories of soldiering and the challenges facing soldiers returning home. This will be created by a collaborative team of ex-service men and women from the Soldier’s Arts Academy  together with musicians, a composer, and a  writer/director.
