Reimagining classical and world music
in neighbourhood venues

Music & Body 2019

In a collaboration with refugees from Freedom from Torture’s celebrated writing group, ‘Write to Life’, five extraordinary musicians, Ant Romero percussion, Attab Haddad oud, Sabina Rakcheyeva violin, Kate St.John oboe and Tunde Jegede kora  and cello present a musical journey from the Middle East and West Africa to Europe, exploring different musical traditions from 3 continents and telling the story of the migrant journey and the impact this has on the body.

For Music and Body we present a dynamic programme ranging from Bach and Schubert to Iraqi folk melodies, kora music from West Africa and folk music from Azerbaijan.  With improvisation, new compositions and readings  which explore the body as both saviour and burden, we celebrate our multi-cultural society, in an artistic exploration of what brings us together as musicians and writers from different countries and traditions
